A completely free improvised offering, that synthesizes elements of minimalism, free jazz, noise, & contemporary classical, with the intention of creating an evocative modern listening experience to challenge and move listeners. The quartet is composed of established creators that have made contributions across the Austin art music spectrum also ranging from ambient, indie-folk, world, electronic, and avant-garde settings. Silo features the talents of Austin musicians Gary Calhoun James (electronics), Joshua Thomson (alto saxophone), Henna Chou (cello), and Aaron Parks (drums). Each musician in their own right adds an integral sonic element to the group’s sound which combines electronics, with acoustic instrumentation. Break/Fix is an improvised music group specifically influenced by free jazz, minimalism, and experimental soundscapes. Break/Fix pursues a variety of sonic approaches to improvisation which often involves imagery, conceptual frameworks, and approaches informed by western and eastern music disciplines.
